The UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute (SSIHI) prioritizes optimal health and well-being of patients, communities, colleagues and populations by incorporating evidence-informed integrative health into translational research, education, clinical services, and community programs. SSIHI is expanding and pioneering new and future strategic initiatives within each of these areas to support all aspects of care.
The Mussallem Nutritional Education Center is located on the UCI campus and equipped with the newest technologies such as broadcasting capabilities, ventilating ceilings to allow for unobstructed views, and dedicated learner displays at each station. Operated by Executive Chef Jessica VanRoo, this space is used to provide nutrition and cooking classes to patients, students, community members, faculty and staff. Additionally, the herb and vegetable garden, located right outside, provides learners with fresh ingredients to cook with.
SSIHI is reimagining healthcare, complementing conventional treatments with integrative services that are informed by science and incorporated into the training of future health professionals to advance a model of team-based, whole-person care that helps patients achieve their best health.
